Physiotherapy your GP can refer you for
If you have a chronic condition, your GP can refer you for Medicare-rebated physiotherapy at four of our centres.
Medicare, NDIS, DVA, WorkCover and private health funds accepted.

Can I get physio on Medicare?
Yes, with a referral. If your GP has prepared a chronic condition management plan, you may be entitled to Medicare-rebated physiotherapy sessions. Medicare pays a rebate and you pay the gap. Physiotherapy is available at Penrith, Blaxland, Katoomba and Ryde.

How many Medicare physiotherapy sessions can I have?
Medicare covers a limited number of allied health services each calendar year under a chronic condition management plan, and the limit is shared rather than per service.
That matters more than most people realise. If you are already seeing a podiatrist and a dietitian under the same plan, those sessions come out of the same allowance as your physiotherapy. Your GP decides how to split them.
It also means Medicare physiotherapy works best as a starting point rather than a full course of treatment. A handful of sessions is enough to assess you properly, get you moving and give you a program to work on. If you need more than your plan allows, we will tell you where you stand before your last session, and you can continue privately or through your health fund.
Am I eligible?
You do not need to work this out yourself. Your GP decides whether a plan is right for you, and we can check how many sessions you have left before you book. Call us on 1300 123 674.
You can usually access Medicare-rebated physiotherapy if:
How Medicare physiotherapy works
Talk to your GP.
If you have a condition that has lasted six months or more, ask whether a chronic condition management plan is right for you.Your GP prepares the plan and the referral.
The referral names the service and how many sessions you have. You book with us.
Bring the referral and your Medicare card to your first appointment. We claim the rebate on the day.
You pay only the gap, and we report back to your GP.
What our physiotherapists help with
Whether Medicare will cover your treatment depends on the referral your GP has written, not on the condition itself. Your GP decides that.
Connected care
A chronic condition rarely sits in one place, which is why your plan may cover more than one service.
Your plan can cover more than one of us.
Physiotherapy, podiatry, dietetics and exercise physiology all sit under the same referral pathway. Where your GP has referred you for more than one, we work from the same plan rather than three separate ones.
Your care travels with you.
Move between our centres and your plan comes with you, so you are not starting over each visit.
Where you can be seen
Medicare physiotherapy is available at our Penrith, Blaxland, Katoomba and Ryde centres.

Frequently asked questions
Is Medicare physiotherapy bulk billed?
Not at OnePointHealth. Medicare pays a rebate and you pay the difference. We claim the rebate on the day so you are not out of pocket for the full fee.
Do I need a new referral every year?
Yes. The allowance resets each calendar year and your GP prepares a new referral. Your GP will usually review your plan at the same time.
Can I use my plan across more than one service?
Yes, and many people do. The total is shared across all allied health, so your GP decides how to divide it between physiotherapy, podiatry, dietetics and exercise physiology.
What if I need more sessions than my plan covers?
You can continue privately or through your health fund. We will tell you where you are up to before your last funded session so it is not a surprise.
Can I see a physio on Medicare for a sports injury?
Usually not. This pathway is for conditions that have lasted six months or longer. An acute injury is normally a private or health fund appointment, and you do not need a referral for either.
Does my GP have to refer me to OnePointHealth specifically?
No. You choose where to use your referral. If your GP has named another provider, you can still bring it to us.
Bring your referral and we will do the rest
Send us an enquiry or call with your referral details, and we will book you in and claim the rebate for you.
