Can I see a physio under WorkCover?

Yes. Your nominated treating doctor refers you, your insurer approves a block of sessions, and OnePointHealth bills the insurer directly. Physiotherapy is available at Penrith, Blaxland, Katoomba and Ryde. Penrith carries our largest workers compensation caseload and has early morning appointments.

What kinds of work injury do you treat?

Most workers compensation physiotherapy referrals come from three kinds of injury.

Something that happened in a moment.

A lift that went wrong, a fall, a slip, a strain. You know the day it happened and often the minute.

Something that built up over months or years.

Repetitive work, awkward postures, a job your body has been absorbing for a long time. These are harder to pin to a date and are covered all the same.

An old injury that work has made worse.

A previous problem aggravated by what you do now.

Physiotherapy under a claim is not the same as physiotherapy in general. The plan is built around the work you need to return to, which means we need to know what your job actually involves: what you lift, how long you stand, what you climb, and what your employer can offer in the meantime.

Am I eligible?

If your claim has not been accepted yet, you may still be able to start. Insurers can fund treatment under provisional liability while a claim is being decided, which is designed to stop people waiting for support they need. Call us and we will talk it through.

You can usually see a physiotherapist under WorkCover if:

What our physiotherapists help with

Whether treatment is covered depends on how your condition relates to your work injury, not on the condition itself. Your treating doctor and your insurer decide that.

Your physiotherapist and your exercise physiologist can work from the same plan.

Physiotherapy settles the injury and exercise physiology builds the capacity to do your job again. Where your claim covers both, they are planned together rather than handed over.

Where mood or sleep is part of it, psychology is available too.

Months off work affects more than the injury. If that becomes part of the picture, we can talk to your treating doctor about adding it.

Frequently asked questions

No. You choose who treats you. Your employer or insurer may suggest a provider, but the decision is yours.

That is common, and it is part of what your plan addresses. Physiotherapy under a claim works towards suitable duties first where full duties are not realistic yet.

It depends on the injury and on what you are returning to. Your insurer approves sessions in blocks, and your physiotherapist reviews progress before requesting more.

Yes, and many people do. Penrith has early morning appointments, which suit people fitting treatment around shifts.

Gradual onset injuries are covered. Your nominated treating doctor documents the link to your work, and the claim proceeds the same way.

Yes. Many large employers are self-insured or use a scheme agent other than icare. The process does not change.
