What is exercise physiology?

An accredited exercise physiologist is a university-qualified allied health professional who uses exercise as treatment. They design clinical exercise programs for chronic conditions, injury rehabilitation and recovery, built around your diagnosis and history rather than a generic gym session. At our Blaxland health centre, that means clinical exercise support close to home for families across the lower Blue Mountains.

How Exercise Physiology at Blaxland may help you

Manage a chronic condition.

Exercise used as treatment for diabetes, heart conditions and chronic pain.

Recover from injury.

Rehabilitation to help you return to work, sport and daily activity.

Build strength and balance.

Programs that support bone health and help reduce the risk of falls.

Move with more confidence.

Get back to activity safely, at a pace that suits you.

A clinical program, not a gym session.

Built around your diagnosis and history, not a generic workout.

Make the most of your referral.

Get the most from an EPC referral, NDIS plan or WorkCover claim.

Conditions we help with

Our Blaxland exercise physiologists work with a wide range of conditions and goals, from managing a chronic diagnosis to recovering from injury and staying steady on your feet.

What you can expect

From your first appointment to review, exercise physiology at OnePointHealth Blaxland follows a clear, practical path built around you.

Tell us what is going on.

Book online or call the Blaxland centre, and bring any GP referral, including an EPC or CDM plan, and recent results if you have them.

A thorough assessment.

Your exercise physiologist reviews your health history, how you move now, and what you want to achieve.

A program built for you.

You start a clinical exercise program designed around your diagnosis, with everything in writing so you can keep going between sessions.

Review and progress.

We track how you are going and adjust the program as you get stronger.

One Team Behind Your Care

Behind every appointment is a team of practitioners who know each other, trust each other and work together for you. Across seven clinics and nine disciplines, our team shares expertise, coordinates treatment plans and celebrates your progress together.

Connected care

Connected care means your exercise physiologist is part of one team, working from the same plan. Here is what that looks like for you.

We start with what you want to get back to.

Not just a number on a chart. What you would be doing if your health were not holding you back: getting back to the activities you have stepped away from, steadier numbers at your next check-up, or simply feeling stronger and steadier on your feet. That goal shapes your plan, your practitioners, and the way we measure progress.

When it supports your care, your practitioner may involve other members of the team to provide additional expertise.

Your exercise physiologist may recommend working alongside a physiotherapist or, with your consent, loop in a dietitian. A second set of eyes tailored to your individual needs.

Your care travels with you.

Move between our centres and your plan comes with you, so you are not starting over each visit. We only share information beyond your treating team, such as with your GP or, for a work injury, your insurer, with your consent, so you stay in control of who sees what.

Our funding pathways

Exercise physiology at Blaxland can be accessed privately or through several funding pathways. For current private fees, contact the Blaxland centre.

Medicare (EPC / CDM)

If your GP refers you under an Enhanced Primary Care or Chronic Disease Management plan, you may be entitled to Medicare-rebated exercise physiology sessions.

WorkCover

If you have been injured at work, we accept WorkCover referrals and manage the paperwork with your insurer.

Learn more

DVA

Gold and White card holders can access exercise physiology with a valid referral.

Learn more

NDIS

Exercise physiology is available to eligible NDIS participants, depending on your plan and goals.

Learn more

Private health funds

If your extras cover includes exercise physiology, you may be able to claim on the day, depending on your level of cover.

Funding pathways are listed as information to help you plan. Eligibility is set by each scheme.

Frequently asked questions

An accredited exercise physiologist is university-qualified to use exercise as treatment for injuries and chronic conditions, and can deliver Medicare, DVA, NDIS and WorkCover-funded care. A personal trainer is not qualified to do this.

You can book directly. For funded pathways such as Medicare (EPC or CDM), DVA or WorkCover, you will need a referral.

With an EPC or CDM referral from your GP, you may be entitled to Medicare-rebated sessions. The number is set by your plan.

Yes. We accept NDIS plans and WorkCover referrals for exercise physiology, and we manage the paperwork.

Any GP referral, recent test results, a list of your medications, and comfortable clothing you can move in.

No. Programs can be done at our centre or at home, using minimal equipment where needed.

Yes. These are core areas, and exercise is one of the most evidence-supported tools for managing them.
